Must measure twice, cut once.
I just seam to keep forgetting to measure.
I've been itching to make this pillow case top and recently scored a cute one at Goodwill. I've been a little hesitant to make any tops since my last go round (I still haven't fixed that shirt. I tried picking out the french seams - pain in the watoosie - and it still didn't fit).
I thought for sure this top would work. Nope.
First problem I had was with the elastic thread. My machine just didn't like it. Gobbled it right up. Ok - no worries I say to myself. We'll just go back to the basics - baste and pull to make the gathers.
Five rows later and about 5 inches to short on the width to make it across my chest. I didn't measure. I needed to make the larger size.
I was planning on making it a pool cover up because the fabric was so sheer. It's the full length of the pillow case minus what I cut for the straps and folded for the hem - 24-ish inches.
This Seinfeld episode kept going through my mind ... only (after two kids) they're mine but they ain't spectacular anymore!
I hate to just chuck this pillow case - if you measure up (he he) and want to finish off this top leave me a comment and I'll draw a name at random on Friday the 24th.
Feel free to humor me with you sewing mishaps where you've been busted ...

I normally only sew for my daughter or sew crafty things. At the beginning of the summer I decided I was going to make myself a blouse. I got the pattern (NON RETURNABLE) only to find out clothing sizes in the store are different than clothing sizes on a pattern. Fortunately I didn't cut up the fabric but I have a pattern I cannot use as the "girls" are too big since becoming mommy....:)
Happens all the time! Although the bust is not usually the problem. In fact...I've never been busted before. But my butt often gets butted out. Hee hee.
I have two little girls, so I'm sure I could use a cute pillow case like that if you'd like to send it my way. They come in handy for lots of things around here.
Oh, darn it anyhow! I've had some sewing mishaps in my time for sure - not long ago I tried to make a cute twirly skirt for Juliet that was just a disaster. I was so disgusted with the whole thing that I threw it in the scrap bin - that'll learn it, huh?! I could probably use that pillowcase as a dress for her, so go ahead and put my name in the drawing!
I haven't sewn anything for myself because I'm sure that I'll make a mistake somewhere with the size.
The top looks great, though. Sorry it doesn't fit.

Hey, you're not the only one that makes mistakes! I made bandana blouses for my 3 1/2 year old granddaughters, and they ended up dresses -- oh well, didn't matter if the matching shorts showed or not. I'd love to finish off the dress!
