Turn The Page ... Tuesday

After last months read I felt I needed something light. Something that would not deplete what little brain cells I have left. I found that in firefly  lane. I had never read any of Kristin Hannah's books and now realize that I've been missing out.

I often like to give my own description when writing about a book but this time I think what was posted on Hannah's web site says what it all:

For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship---jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they’ve survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart…and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test.

Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone’s Farm apple wine while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac. More than a coming-of-age novel, it’s the story of a generation of women who were both blessed and cursed by choices. It’s about promises and secrets and betrayals. And ultimately, about the one person who really, truly knows you---and knows what has the power to hurt you…and heal you. Firefly Lane is a story you’ll never forget…one you’ll want to pass on to your best friend.

The decades these two main characters come of age and then grow into women were just a smidge before me (I was 14 in 1985 - ouch!) so it was a little off from my experience but I certainly remembered much of the music, hairstyles (can we say banana clips and 'the Rachel' cut?), and the clothes. If nothing else you will get a good laugh at how silly they are at times and probably remember something from back in your day.  I'm not going to ruin the end or remotely hint to what the 'betryal' is ... you'll just have to read the book ;-) It will be worth your time and the tears. Yes, tears - you know a good book about best friends is not a good read unless you need at least one box of tissues.

Don't forget to link to your TTPT post and to check out the other reviews. As always - I want to thank you for participating ... I have found so many books that I might never have discovered if it wasn't for you - what a tragedy that would be!

I read Firefly Lane just about a month ago and so agree with Hannah's words. I loved it and since I graduated from high school in 1985, I could very much relate. It was my first Kristin Hannah book as well and I will certainly be reading more from her.

PS-I typo-ed my blog address the first time... sorry about that!

This sounds like a good book. I'm from the same era so I'm sure would relate well to this book.
I posted my turn the page tuesday but Mr. linky doesn't like me today.

Sounds like a good read. I haven't had a second to sit and read. The only thing I look at are kitchen design books, color swatches and counter top samples these day. Looking forward to a nice read.

Oh yeah, isn't that a good one?? I was boo-hooing, too. I'm reading On Mystic Lake by her right now, and it's pretty good, but I liked Firefly Lane better. :)
