Day Five : : Not Betty Or Martha

I made progress on cutting out some aprons and actually finished the one for my Sassy Apron Swap partner. I was glad to finish off the week with some sewing instead of baking! I'm tired of wiping flour off the floor (and cabinets). I might bake some bread today (I ran out of eggs ... imagine that!) ... or maybe not. I am in need a good italian or french bread recipe, but more about that in a bit - on to the apron!
I made one side vintage-ish :

(Fabric is Alexander Henry 'buffet')

And the other fall-ish (apple fabric for pockets) :

I just need to make the pot holder and type up some recipes and off it will go!

Well folks, this here is my 198 post. How did that happen? It seems like yesterday I celebrated my 100th. So what to do? Well I have some extra fabric in my stash that I'd just LOVE to make someone an apron out of. You guys are so great to read my dribble - I have to say thank you somehow! You know the routine ... leave me a comment on this post telling my why you like to wear aprons and how many you have (if you know - ha!). If you have a great bread recipe leave that too. Blog about it and get an extra entry (let me know you did so). I'll draw the winner in a week. OH! I'm so excited ;-) I just love this blogging world!

I'll pull a few fabrics from my stash that you could choose your apron from ... I'll share those on Monday. Have a great weekend!

I have enjoyed your Not Betty or Martha week...I'm afraid I did not bake with you (unless rice crispie treats count)but I did do some sewing. I am working on an apron for my MIL's birthday, but sshhhhh! that's a secret! Congrats on almost 200 posts! I am loving the apron you made for the swap...so cute. I have one apron that I just made a couple of weeks ago after I got my hands on the book A is for Apron. I have really loved it. I'm a messy cook and when I wash dishes everything gets wet so aprons are perfect for me...what took me so long to figure that out?! Thanks for the chance to win one:o)

Well, I don't really wear aprons. And I don't have any bread recipes to share (I have celiac, so none of my bread has gluten in it which is very tricky). So don't enter me in the drawing, but I did want to say, Cute apron! I love your fabric choices.

How fun!!! Happy almost 200 posts!!! I love to wear aprons when I cook simply because I am so messy! ;)I also really like aprons because they seem to take me back to a different time when life was slow and family was so important...that is probably my favorite thing about aprons. Wow, to count my aprons would be interesting and it is probably better not to post numbers for my husband to find anywhere! ;) I have a small collection of aprons that my great grandmother made and those are probably my most treasured ones!

My favorite cheater bread recipe is for Focaccia Bread:

1 roll of pizza crust from the refrigerated section (near the biscuits) at the grocery store
1 purple onion
rosemary
garlic
2-3 roma tomatoes
olive oil

Grease (I just spray some Pam) a 9x13 inch casserole dish and unroll your pizza crust and place it in the bottom of the dish. Coat the bread with some olive oil and sprinkle apprx. 2 teaspoons of garlic around the bread. Slice the tomatoes and the onion and scatter around the crust. Sprinkle the rosemary and add a bit more olive oil to the crust and then place it in the oven uncovered for 15-20 minutes at 425 degrees. I usually just watch mine until it starts to brown and pull it out. It is quick, easy and yummy! Enjoy!

I like aprons mostly because they keep my clothes clean. I only have one, the now-worn-out denim one I made in grade 8 sewing, so a chance to win a new one would be great.

Um, I have two. One is my husband's old one from when he was a busboy. The other is an emmeline that I made. And haven't worn yet...

Well, I only wear an apron for baking and it's been too hot to bake this summer. That's my excuse, anyway...

I like to wear aprons cuz they remind me of my childhood--mom usually had one on when cooking or baking. I think I have about 8 aprons---

Happy 200th post!

Believe it or not I haven't got any aprons but Milo has 2!! All my bread comes from the bread maker but I did use this recipe for banana bread http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/2008/06/banana-bread.html technically it's not actually mine but it is gorgeous.

Happy 200th! Gorgeous apron! I am very new to the apron world! I have only two aprons, one I made to practice for the Sassy Apron Swap and one that my Sassy partner sent me. It's so feminine to put on an apron!

love the vintage-y fabric, super cute apron. i love aprons. love to wear the full aprons to cook and the half-aprons to clean. unsure of how many i have (loads of vintage ones in a tote - need to get those out!). i have had the emmeline on my to-sew forever but just can't seem to get to it! my favorite bread recipe is Martha's banana bread recipe which can be found here http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.fc77a0dbc44dd1611e3bf410b5900aa0/?vgnextoid=6ab7542a0780f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextfmt=default&rsc=header_4&autonomy_kw=banana+bread.

I just love to sew.. what more could a gal want. I always seem to sew aprons for everyone else. So naturally I joined apron groups, so I could do swaps. I finished up on three aprons last weekend for swaps. I love to use aprons as a focal point in my kitchen. I change them out per the seasons.

I love these

Egg Dinner Rolls:
Shape these egg-rich rolls into pretty rosettes.

3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
1 package of active dry yeast
1 cup of milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 egg yolks
1 slightly beaten egg yolk
1 tablespoon water

In a large mixing bowl combine 1 1/2 cups of flour and the yeast; set aside. In a medium saucepan heat and stir the milk, sugar, butter, and salt just till warm
(120 to 130 degrees)and butter almost melts. Add to the flour mixture. Then add the 3 egg yolks. Beat with and electric mixer on low to medium speed of 30 seconds, scraping the sides of the bowl. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes. Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can.

On a lightly floured surface, knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic (6to 8 minutes total). Shape into a ball. Place dough in a greased bowl; turn once. Cover; let rise in a warm place till double (about 1 hour).

Punch dough down. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide in half. Then divide each half into 12pieces. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Mean while, grease baking sheets. To shape rolls, roll each piece into a 12 inch rope. Tie dough in a loose knot. Tuck top end under the roll. Then bring bottom end up and tuck it into the center of the roll. Place 3 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place till nearly double (about 30 Mins).

Brush rolls with a mixture of one egg yolk and water. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden. Remove rolls from baking sheet and cool on wire rack. Makes 24

I hope you enjoy these rolls and thank you for the chance to win ;)
