I don't even know how to describe this book - a coming of age book under the oppressive rule of a cruel dictator doesn't seem to sum it up very well. Every time I have tried to describe this book (ok - so I guess I'm not really the last one to have read it after all) I get confused look and some even ask why I read it. All I can say is - read it. It's a good one!
I cannot wait to see the movie. Some of the characters were so outlandish (and despicable) - I can only imagine how they will be portrayed on the screen.
Bonus Books
I had never read Susanna Kearsley before but I can assure you after reading The Winter Sea I will definitly change that! This was such an interesting story line and it made for a page turner. I liked that the romance was sweet and not like a Harlequin (sorry for those who like a bit of steam). Amazon has a great summary:
"History has all but forgotten...In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.
Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.
But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth-the ultimate betrayal-that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her... "
Another must add to your list (as if it isn't long enough already - I know!).
So ladies, what have you been reading? I'd love to know even if it wasn't part of a series or a sequel ... do tell!

How funny--we both read the same book! If you liked The Winter Sea, you might also enjoy My Dream of You by Nuala O'Faolain.
Nope, I have not read the Hunger Games books yet but keep hearing such good things about them that I'm going to have to do it!
