Squaring Off

I'm going toe to toe over here.
It's pitiful actually.
I'm loosing.

I'm trying to make a square - 16 or so to be (sorta) exact. I followed this pattern I found but as you can see ...

It ain't square.
I.will.prevail.

This yarn and I (and any patterns you feel like suggesting) will be squaring off this weekend. Let's hope for minimal casualties.

Welcome to my frustrations....I think when you get to a corner, add an extra single crochet to allow the turn and then go back to the double crocheting. The yarn is fantastic.

The same thing used to happen when I tried to do a square. Tension and gauge are important with squares like that. You have to pay close attention to the corners. It may be because of the pattern. Maybe a different granny square pattern could help.
