Crafting Catastrophe Number ...

Oh yes. They are numbered. Hold on to your hooks and scissors because I have a tale of woe to tell ...

Number One

A scarf that I started at the beach that went bust. I would like to blame the wonkiness on the salt air .... making the wool get crazy on me but I know that would never do since that is what they make fisherman's sweaters out of ...

I've decided I don't really care for working with wool yarn. Any suggestions on how to make it less a struggle?

Number Two
A crochet bag/purse from Knit Or Crochet - Have It Your Way (I'm so original, I even bought the same color yarn that they used).

I made it all the way to row 38 before I realized that I had royally messed up. My cable knits are completely off (look at the left ... it's supposed to match the right side) not to mention that my tension (again) is horrid.

There was nothing left to do but to sigh deeply, frog it and start over ... and over again. Yup. I made it to row 23 before I realized that somehow I had begun to decrease and my margins were off.

Oy. For the love of yarn! Please let me catch a break on round three (actually this is round 5 if you count the first two times I had to pull the foundation row b/c my gauge was off).

Number 3

Remember the Mystery Purse Sew Along? Yea I know that was back in March and it's now August ... indulge me.

For some reason I got stumped on a step (which now baffles me b/c it was so not hard) and could not get past it. I finally had less brain clutter and figured it out and was able to finish it off.

This is a really cute and functional bag but unfortunately for me I am still in my sewing rut. I made a few mistakes and had a difficult time working with the heavy interfacing. When I turned the bag right side out I forgot to attach the front flap. I had to improvise and just catch it when I top stitched ...

Or so I thought ... I didn't get it all. Because it was so difficult to turn I wasn't about to try to rip the stitches and redo it. I am just going to live with a wonky library bag. I don't think the books are going to mind!

I'm so glad you finished the sew-along bag. Your fabric is fabulous! The crochet purse you're working on is so cute...and the color is great. Now, about that scarf. Please tell me that it's not difficult because it's on my to-make list. Even with it's wonkiness I can see that it's going to look wonderful.

The bag is cute. I don't think anyone would notice.
I'm not good with yarn. Everything I make out of it turns out crooked.

I can totally relate to these mistakes. It makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one doing these things. I always think to myself-What are you doing here girl? Pay attention!! It's so frustrating, I know.

I love the bag you made.
