Stuff(ed)

Boy am I stuffed. Still. A whole 24 hours after the feast and I am still bursting at the seams. And speaking of seams ...

I did manage to squeeze in a bit of sewing (for me of course - still haven't started on that Christmas list yet). I rediscovered the April Bag and thought it would make a great crochet tote. The sides are fairly open which gives lots of room for yarn to move freely and the straps make it easy to hang on a chair or your shoulder while you are cooking ... I mean hooking (you know, waiting for your water to boil. Don't you crochet and cook at the same time?)

I decided to line the bag with some silky material that I had left over from these clutches to decrease the resistance for the yarn.

The exterior fabric is from Anna Maria Horner's Garden Party line (Receiving Line - Ice). I'd say my yarn is definitely having a party in there. I plan on having a party in some Ice too ... I have 3 more yards of this beauty and I plan on making something ... a skirt or a dress. After the Christmas sewing is done ;-)

More Stuff:

Purse details - it was an easy bag to sew - directions were clear (even for me!). I don't think I would want this as a purse because the top and upper sides are open and I would be fearful of loosing my stuff. I made the handbag version, maybe the shoulder bag would make a better purse because it would be deeper. Just a thought.

I am finally making a scarf for me. The one I finished at the beach is being gifted. That's what's in the bag.

Turn the page ... Tuesday is this Tuesday! Dec. 1st! Can you believe it. I have lots to share on Tuesday so make sure to stop by. Don't forget to get your read on ;-)

I have something trashy in the works. If TTPT doesn't bring you back maybe that little teaser will ...

In the meantime, you can find me here:

Thankful

Tuesday DH and I celebrated 8 years of marriage at home with our kiddos in front of the fire.

We are truly blessed and judging by my boys pictures, they are getting on the thankful bandwagon too ...

John's thankful list that he made at school

Henry's thankful picture that he drew during church

To say I am thankful would be the understatement of the year. My heart is bursting at the seams. I hope yours is too.

Jumpy

I finally finished my second project that I had started over the weekend ... the other weekend; as in two weekends ago. ahem.

This the first project I have made from One Yard Wonders (the classic jumper) and for the most part I like how it turned out. I made a few mistakes - like cut the fabric wrong - oy! Thankfully I was planning to make two of these so I just put the one I cut wrong aside and dug into my scrap drawer(s) to pull something that screamed little girl.

I have a baby shower in December for a girlfriend who is having her fourth ... she has three boys so some pink was in order!

One of my mistakes ... my buttons don't match. Of coarse I didn't realize this until after I had sewn them on. Off to the chain store tomorrow for buttons that are a pair!

Semi (Psychedelic) Simple Pillows

I finished one of my weekend sewing projects ...

Anyone out there guess what I was making? I don't know why I have never made these before. They are so simple (thus the name I suppose) and fun to make (but hard to photograph!).

The back fabric I got at JoAnn and it's "Topsy Turvy" by Donna Wilder. The front has brown flannel and over that is "Park Slope" by Erin McMorris (Free Spirit). I embroidered 3 flowers on each pillow. I figured there was enough going on and wanted to keep it semi simple ;-P

These pillows are being boxed up and shipped out to my BTRS partner who described her space as "eclectic, colorful, and anything goes". I'd say I've got it covered ;-) I just hope she doesn't need any mood altering drugs after receiving these ... I'd say the pillows are psychedelic enough!

Weekending

I was bending the rules and

wondering what I could make next ...

No Christmas sewing to be heard of though ... too early ;-P

What were you doing?

Unleaded

Do you save every crafty idea you fall in love with? I do. Sometimes I print them right away because I just know I'm going to get to it asap (I'm not even going to go there ...).

I finally removed one set of instructions from the tower, ahem, stack. It came about out of necessity really. We bought one of those coffee makers that has two stainless cups and you can brew just one side or both. It's bliss. I don't know why really. Maybe it's because both DH and I are gadget geeks.

But I digress. The honeymoon was over when we kept forgetting who's cup was who's. That is until I remembered that somewhere, some time ago I had seen this great thing that would be perfect.

A coffee cozy. The honeymoon was back on - not only did I have it in my 'asap' file but I had it close to the top. It was meant to be.

I dug in my stash bin again and found some of my favorite Joel Dewberry (aviary) and went to town ... not realizing that I had laid it out upside down!

Maybe if I drank the leaded stuff I wouldn't have gotten turned around (or maybe if I had just paid attention to the directions!). Oh well. At least DH and I won't get mixed up anymore.

Fill-er-up ... unleaded please.

I Hope

I Hope all the imperfections of my first 'quilt' go unnoticed.

I Hope the giant red X's (where the fabric bled - ack!) is considered cool by the boy who inherits this ... X marks the spot right?

I Hope that this quilt (which I lined and backed with flannel) will bring warmth both literally and figuratively to the boy who finds himself wrapped in it.

I Hope to give hope to a boy who might not have any.

Better To See You With

I might have mentioned here before that the ol' eyes ain't what they used to be. Reading glasses are a must these days (thankfully I can still get by with the drug store variety).

They are littered - ahem - strategically placed through out my house.

I had one problem though.

They were exposed.

Naked.

Available to curious dirty little hands.

Then I saw this amazing tutorial for a hexagon eye glass case yesterday on Sew, Mama, Sew!.

And then I had a good laugh.

Who am I kidding. I don't have time for hexagons. I need a quick craft fix; not a cut a gazillion little pieces, assemble a gazillion pieces, rip out a gazillion pieces (you know it's not a project for me if Jack, the seam ripper extraordinaire, doesn't see some action).

So I did it the Some of a Kind way.

I used her template but just used solid pieces of fabric.

I hit my scrap bin and went to town. Exterior fabric is from Amy Butler's Belle line. The interior is something I had picked up a Jo Ann's. I need to make a few more; I'm thinking patchwork.

I say fingerprints no more! After all ... better to see you with my dears.

Happy Hour

Mindy is hosting another fun swap ~ The Beverage Swap and it's not too late to sign up. Just email her { princessandthebeads at gmail dot com } and answer the fun questions she has listed in her Happy Hour post by this Sunday.

DH and I on our honeymoon (almost 8 years ago!) ... just ignore my multiple chins!

You know it's five o'clock somewhere ... so what's your poison?

Turn The Page ... Tuesday

I had it all figured out.

Nicolas Sparks, I've read enough of your books to figure out where you are going ... or so I thought.

A Bend in the Road is a heart wrenching good book in true Sparks fashion. There is tragedy, friendship, love, lies, and a whole lot of 'please let it all be ok'. The two main characters experienced great losses in very different ways - they meet - begin healing - find happiness - and you guessed it ... the metaphorical bend in the road becomes something they are unsure if they can straighten out. This books keeps your heart on edge wondering what is going to happen and will they all be alright. Goodness knows they all have been through enough already. I thought I was so clever and 'knew' the ending before the end ... I was wrong. And boy was I surprised.

If you've never read one of his books - I'd say add this to your list (don't worry - this isn't a mushy wushy read). If you are a Sparks fan but haven't read this one ... that goes for you too!

As our other TTPT bloggers post I'll add a link to their reviews - happy reading!

We've Got The Consumption

Candy consumption that is.

oh. my. aching. belly.

When will I ever learn.

DH and I spent the better part of the late evening 'examining' the boys loot, you know, to make sure everything was OK to consume.

We figured the Hulk and Pooh wouldn't mind us dipping into their super power supplement / honey jar.

Don't forget that you have until Tuesday to devour a good book and post about it for TTPT (make sure you tell me if you participate so I can link to you)!
